Oketša is a new fashion brand that was born in South Africa and bred in New York. The brand is a unique, visual expression that captures the rich culture and iconography of the African diaspora by fusing traditional design with distinctly original African elements. While an African spirit forms the core of the brand, it embraces much of what is African while remaining aware of international trends and seeks to create a nonbinary, forward-thinking identity that is NOT regional but global.

Oketša (pronounced O-Ke-Cha) loosely translates as growth in the South African language of Sepedi. Oketša’s mission is to create a forward thinking, global style movement by designing fashion & lifestyle products that inspire, inform and influence trend driven, socially conscious cultural epicureans.

Oketšawas conceived by award-winning South African designer Thulare Monareng an internationally acclaimed fashion designer and entrepreneur with a record of achievement in the fashion industry. Besides establishing her eponymous fashion brand and The Fashion Deli Concept Store, she has also worked as a Brand Manager at South Africa’s largest high-end multichannel retailer Woolworths, where she was instrumental in launching Australian premium fashion brands Country Road and Trenery.  She has presented collections internationally and her eponymous collections have been sold at iconic premium retailers such as Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Woolworths Department Stores and The Space in South Africa.

Thulare has been featured in numerous international publications, television, radio and blogs including “O” The Oprah Magazine’s 2011 Power List in which she was featured as one of South Africa’s 5 most influential women and 21 international visionaries. She has also been featured in other notable international publications such as Forbes Woman Africa, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), Essence, Elle, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, WGSN, Shape, Madame Figaro (Korea), New York Times, Los Angeles Times, House & Leisure, Velvet (Argentina), Air France Global Inflight Magazine, Centric TV, MTV and many more. Thulare is a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York with an Associate Degree in Fashion Buying and Merchandising, Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and the University of Antwerp, Belgium with a Master's Degree in Public Administration and Management.
